BLOCKCHAIN LAB BRIEFING · STABLECOINS

Cointelegraph Says Nubank's US Account Converts Deposits into USDC or EURC

A bank-like app that converts a deposit into a stablecoin is a product with two balance sheets. The post names the product and not the holder.

01

What happened

On 11 September 2026 @Cointelegraph posted that Nubank had launched in the United States and unveiled Nu Global, a multi-currency account that converts deposits into USDC or EURC. The snapshot shows 145 reposts, 16 quotes, 30 replies and 1,002 likes.

The post calls Nubank a crypto-friendly digital bank. It does not say the US entity is a bank, and it does not say the stablecoin balance is a deposit.

02

Why it matters

Conversion is the whole product. A customer balance can be a deposit in the morning and a claim on Circle's token in the afternoon. Those are different creditors. A headline that says 'account' hides the switch.

USDC and EURC are not the same instrument and not the same currency. A multi-currency label does not say who bears the exchange.

03

The operating layer

A user, or a firm treating this as a payout destination, needs to know which entity holds the dollar before conversion, which entity holds the token after, and whether the token can be redeemed or only spent inside the app.

This desk has not read the account agreement.

04

What is verified

The product name, the two tokens, and the US launch claim are in the Cointelegraph post.

Nubank's own announcement was not retrieved in this pass.

05

What is still unclear

Whether 'converts' is automatic or optional.

Who the customer has a claim against after conversion.

Whether the US launch is a bank, a money transmitter, or an app on top of someone else's charter.

06

The catch

A familiar banking brand plus a stablecoin ticker is how a token is mistaken for a deposit. The post's verb is convert. Conversion is the moment the claim changes, and the post does not say into whose hands.

WATCH

What builders should watch

  1. 01Nubank's own terms for Nu Global.
  2. 02Whether conversion is opt-in.
  3. 03Which Circle token terms apply.
  4. 04The US regulatory status of the entity that holds the balance.

BOTTOM LINE

The post says Nubank's new US account converts deposits into USDC or EURC. If that is accurate, the customer changes creditors when it happens. The post does not say who the second creditor is, and it is not Nubank's own text.
