BLOCKCHAIN LAB BRIEFING · BITCOIN

A Post Says the SEC Approved a 3x Bitcoin ETP

A leveraged product is a derivatives wrapper. Approval, if real, is not a change in what bitcoin is, and three times a move is a path to a larger loss.

01

What happened

On 2 October 2026 @BitcoinArchive posted that the SEC had approved a 3x Bitcoin ETP along with gold, silver, oil and gas, and that US markets already had 2x products. The post credits Eric Balchunas. This snapshot shows 112 reposts, 8 quotes, 52 replies and 753 likes.

The post does not name the fund, the sponsor, or the order.

02

Why it matters

A 3x product resets daily in the products of this kind that already exist. The path of the underlying and the path of the product diverge. That is the fact a buyer has to be shown, and it is absent from the post.

Listing bitcoin beside commodities in one approval line does not make bitcoin a commodity by itself, and it does not make the product a holding of bitcoin.

03

The operating layer

If you clear or distribute the product, the documents that matter are the prospectus, the daily-reset method, and who can create and redeem. The post has none of them.

Do not describe this, even if the approval is real, as the SEC endorsing bitcoin.

04

What is verified

The post is from @BitcoinArchive on 2 October 2026. It states an approval and points at a named commentator.

This desk has not retrieved the SEC order.

05

What is still unclear

The file number, the issuer, and whether 'approved' means an effective registration, an exchange rule filing, or something narrower.

How the 3x factor is calculated, and over what window.

06

The catch

Leverage is a loss multiplier on the way down. A repost count does not change that, and an approval is not a view from the Commission on the asset.

WATCH

What builders should watch

  1. 01The SEC order or the exchange filing.
  2. 02The fund's daily reset and decay language.
  3. 03Who the authorised participants are.
  4. 04That this is not a spot holding and not a custody rule.

BOTTOM LINE

The post says a 3x bitcoin product was approved. The order is not here. If it was approved, it is a leveraged wrapper, not a bitcoin balance and not a policy blessing.
