BLOCKCHAIN LAB BRIEFING · VENTURE BUILDS
Google Will Switch Off the Nodes. It Will Not Move You.
Blockchain Node Engine and Blockchain RPC end on 15 December 2026. Quicknode is the recommended replacement. The migration is a sequence the customer still has to run.
- 0115 June 2026New node creation and new Blockchain RPC usage disabled.
- 02Until DecemberExisting resources keep running and receive critical updates.
- 0315 December 2026Both services shut down. Dependent workloads fail.
Limited support began in June. The deletion date is December. Applications still aimed at the old endpoints fail after that date.
Google Cloud, Blockchain Node Engine release notes.
01
What happened
Google Cloud is retiring two products: Blockchain Node Engine, the managed nodes, and Blockchain RPC, the hosted endpoints for queries and transaction submission. The company’s migration guide says both shut down on 15 December 2026. Quicknode is named as the recommended provider, procurable through Google Cloud Marketplace or directly.
The release notes put the start of the wind-down earlier. From 15 June 2026, new node creation and new Blockchain RPC usage were disabled. Existing resources continue, with critical updates, until the final date. This is a programme already in motion.
02
Why it matters
A recommended vendor is not a handover. Google’s own sequence tells the customer to provision, retarget, validate, and then delete legacy Node Engine nodes. Google says it will delete Blockchain RPC endpoints on 15 December. Anything still calling them loses the service.
The chain those applications talk to does not shut down with the product. What shuts down is one company’s door to it. Teams that treated a cloud RPC as a permanent utility have a dated dependency, the same shape as any other managed endpoint with a retirement notice.
03
The operating layer
Inventory every URL, credential and chain that still points at Blockchain Node Engine or Blockchain RPC. Provision the replacement before the deletion date, not on it. Then run the methods the application actually uses: the reads, the submissions, the auth, the rate limits. A marketing line about swapping a URL is a start. Google still requires the validation step.
Quicknode is recommended, not mandatory. Nothing in the guide transfers the old endpoint, the old credential, or the old contract by itself. Marketplace incentives are a sales conversation. They are not an automatic cutover.
- 01ProvisionNew nodes or endpoints, via Marketplace or Quicknode directly.
- 02PointApplications must be aimed at the new endpoints before shutdown.
- 03ValidateWorkloads have to be tested. Recommendation is not a test.
- 04DecommissionCustomers delete Node Engine nodes. Google deletes the RPC endpoints.
Marketplace incentives, where they exist, are a commercial detail from a sales representative. They are not a migrated endpoint.
Google Cloud, Migrate to Quicknode before 15 December 2026.
04
What is verified
Google’s documentation states the 15 December 2026 shutdown, the June restriction on new usage, the Quicknode recommendation, and the four-step order. It distinguishes customer deletion of Node Engine nodes from Google’s deletion of Blockchain RPC endpoints.
The release notes say workloads that still depend on the resources will fail after the shutdown date.
05
What remains unclear
Which customers have completed validation, and on which chains. The size of any Marketplace incentive. Whether a given application’s method set behaves the same on the new endpoint. Those are account facts. They are not in the public guide.
06
The catch
Retiring two blockchain infrastructure products is not a withdrawal from every blockchain-related use of Google Cloud. Storage, data and other collaborations can continue while these node services end. Reading the shutdown as “Google has left the industry” overshoots the notice.
The operational fact is narrower and more urgent. The network can be fine on 15 December. The Google door to it will not.
WATCH
What builders should watch
- 01Every production URL that still targets Blockchain Node Engine or Blockchain RPC.
- 02A validation log for the methods the application actually calls, not a homepage claim of no code changes.
- 03The deletion of legacy nodes only after that validation, and before 15 December 2026.
BOTTOM LINE
Quicknode is a recommendation with a deadline. The customer still provisions, retargets, tests, and decommissions. Nothing moves itself.
