BLOCKCHAIN LAB BRIEFING · REGULATION

A Post Says a Former House Chair Told CoinDesk the CLARITY Act Could Pass After the Midterms

A lame-duck path is a calendar opinion from a former chair. It does not enact the bill, and it does not freeze the draft people were fighting over in September.

01

What happened

On 3 October 2026 @CoinMarketCap posted that former House Financial Services chairman Patrick McHenry had told CoinDesk the CLARITY Act was, in the post's wording, basically baked or cooked, and could pass in the post-midterm lame-duck session. The snapshot shows 81 reposts, 7 quotes, 55 replies and 457 likes.

The post does not quote a longer interview and does not say the bill has been scheduled.

02

Why it matters

A former chair's confidence is a data point about politics. Passage still requires the votes, and the text can change between a September draft and a December vote. The circuit-breaker arguments from mid-September are not retired by this sentence.

'Baked' is a colloquialism. It will be quoted as if it were a whip count.

03

The operating layer

Do not ship a product against a bill because a former chair sounded finished. Wait for the text that is actually called up.

If you must tell a board, say a former chair told a newsroom he thinks a lame-duck vote is possible. That is the whole fact on this page.

04

What is verified

The post is CoinMarketCap's rendering of what McHenry told CoinDesk.

The CoinDesk interview was not opened in this pass.

05

What is still unclear

Whether he was shown a particular draft.

Whether leadership has scheduled anything.

Which version 'cooked' refers to.

06

The catch

Optimism from a former chair is not a calendar. The bill people argued about in September may not be the bill, if any, that reaches a vote.

WATCH

What builders should watch

  1. 01The CoinDesk interview.
  2. 02Any official schedule.
  3. 03Whether the text still contains the yield circuit breaker argued in September.
  4. 04That 'could pass' is not 'passed'.

BOTTOM LINE

The post says a former House chair told CoinDesk the CLARITY Act looks close to finished and might move in a lame-duck session. That is his view, twice removed from this page. It is not a vote.
