Ledger and payments engineer at Gemini, Nasdaq: GEMI. The base band is $140,000–$200,000 in New York only, excludes bonus and equity, and every hire onboards in person.
Apply if
- Five or more years on production backend systems.
- You can live with New York, Miami, or US remote near their hub rules — and you can fly in to onboard.
- You are willing to own a double-entry book, not a trading strategy.
Do not apply if
- You are outside the United States.
- You read the band as total compensation or as a California number. The posting names New York for this one.
- You want a protocol seat.
You would own
Ledger and payment services, bank settlement pipelines, and the APIs that must stay auditable.
You would not own
It does not own exchange matching, the platform-security seat, or a band outside the state they named.
What they wrote, and what we read
Employer stated
The Money team owns the ledger for crypto and fiat balances, settlements, fees, rewards, and adjustments.
Reading
This is the system of record. A reconciliation bug is a customer-asset bug.
Employer stated
Base salary $140,000–$200,000 in the State of New York. Not inclusive of discretionary bonus or equity.
Reading
The posting does not call the figures USD. Do not widen the band to Miami or remote on your own. Equity is GEMI stock, which is liquid, and the IPO price is not today's price.
Employer stated
Employees who do not live near a hub are remote. All employees onboard in person.
Reading
Remote USA is not remote onboarding. Ask which hub, and how often hybrid is actually in the office.
Gemini Space Station priced its IPO at $28 on 11 September 2025, raising $425 million, a $3.33 billion non-diluted value at that price by Reuters' count. The next day the debut was reported at about $4.4 billion. Both numbers are history. The ticker is GEMI. Check the live print before you value an RSU. The twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss founded the company; the posting says 2014.
Listed equity changes the conversation the private seats on this desk are having. You can look up the stock. You still cannot look up your grant. Ask the share count, the vesting, and whether the New York band is the only number they will put in an offer for your location.
Ninety days — illustrative
Not the employer’s onboarding plan.
- Days 1–30: sit with reconciliation. Learn which break is a bug and which is a timing difference.
- Days 31–60: one pipeline change with a test that fails if a credit lands twice.
- Days 61–90: an on-call week you can describe without a hero story.
A week you can rehearse
- Draw a double-entry for a fiat deposit and a crypto withdrawal.
- Name the failure if a bank file arrives late.
- Ask which state your band would actually use.
Ask them
- Does my location get the New York band, a different band, or none in writing?
- What is the equity grant in shares, and what is the live price assumption?
- Which office is the onboarding, and what is the hybrid expectation after?
Walk away if
- They apply the New York band to a state the posting did not name, verbally.
- Onboarding in person is 'waived for strong candidates'.
- The ledger work is actually a rotation through three teams.
Proof you can build before you apply
- The settlement lab: a timeout, a retry, and a reconciliation line. Illustrative.

Blockchain Lab analysis
Public reporting and the employer’s own releases. Not a relationship with Blockchain Lab. Not a credit opinion.
- Founded
- 2014, by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, as the company tells it on the posting. New York.
- Base
- New York, Miami, or remote in the USA if you do not live near a hub. Hybrid at hubs. Everyone onboards in person.
- Status
- Public. Nasdaq: GEMI. The IPO price is not today's price.
- People
- Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. Reuters reported they owned about 75 million shares after the IPO.
Gemini's posting calls itself the bridge between traditional finance and a cryptoeconomy, and it reminds you that it is public. The two seats here are how a public exchange stays a public exchange: a ledger that does not miscount, and the cloud controls around it. The Money engineer is closer to a bank's core than to a DeFi protocol. The staff security engineer is closer to a platform team than to a bounty hunter. Both are on-call jobs. Both require you to show up in person at least for onboarding.
Price the equity against the live print, not against September 2025. The company sold stock at $28 and opened the next day in a way that Reuters marked near $4.4 billion. A year is a long time for an exchange stock. This brief will not type a stale market cap and call it current. The cash bands are real and narrow: they name states, they exclude the bonus and the stock, and they do not even say USD. Miami is a location on the posting and is missing from the security band's sentence. If you live there, the number in the header is not your number until someone writes it down.
Founders
Cameron Winklevoss
Co-founder
Public face of the company with his brother since the start. The IPO story is their story. A staff engineer will not report to him. The equity you receive, if any, is stock in the company they control a large piece of. Ask about the class of share.
Tyler Winklevoss
Co-founder
Same cap table, same debut. Reuters put the brothers' post-IPO holding near 75 million shares. Concentration is the governance fact. It is also why a 'staff' title can still be a small vote.
What the company sells
The exchange
Crypto and Web3 products for individuals and institutions, the posting says, in over 70 countries. That footprint is the company's sentence, not a licence list.
Money
The ledger of record for crypto and fiat balances, fees, rewards, and adjustments, plus bank settlement and reconciliation. That is the senior engineer seat.
Platform security
Python or Go services, AWS and Kubernetes controls as code, CI gates, and an on-call. Not a contract audit.

What should change your mind
- Listed stock can go to zero faster than private marks get updated. It can also be sold. Know which one you are being paid in.
- State-specific bands. A Remote (USA) label is not the New York range.
- In-person onboarding is mandatory in the posting.
- Founder concentration. Ask which share class the employee plan uses.
Ask them
- What is today's GEMI price, and what strike would a new grant use?
- Does the New York band apply to Miami and to remote, or only to New York?
- Which hub is onboarding, and how many days a year is hybrid actually?
- Is the Money seat a backfill on the ledger, or a new payments product?

What the employer actually wrote
Employer stated. Senior engineer on Gemini’s Money team: the ledger of record for crypto and fiat, plus the bank settlement and reconciliation pipes around it.
- Design, develop, deploy, and support ledger and payments services that accurately record all crypto and fiat money movement across the platform.
- Build and evolve bank settlement and reconciliation pipelines that connect Gemini to external payment rails and banking partners.
- Apply sound engineering principles to identify correctness, consistency, and operational risks — and implement safeguards in software before they become incidents.
- Partner with finance, reconciliation, and treasury teams to understand real-world workflows and translate them into robust, auditable system behavior.
- Design scalable APIs and data models that support new transaction types, products, and regulatory requirements without increasing operational burden.

A reading of the work
Blockchain Lab analysis. These lines are a reading of the advertisement. They are not extra hiring requirements.
- A ledger bug is a customer-balance bug. Say which invariant you would test first.
- Reconciliation against a bank file is the job, not a finance afterthought.
- The New York band is not a promise for Miami or for remote.
Still not disclosed
- Anything the compensation line does not already quote. A printed band is the employer’s sentence for the place they named — not a Blockchain Lab estimate, and not a promise for every location on the posting.
- Closing date, and the day the role was first published. The board timestamp is an update.
- Which countries may apply. “Remote” alone is not worldwide eligibility. If the employer wrote a country or a region, that sentence is theirs — still ask which entity can hire you.
- Visa sponsorship, the real on-call rota, and the employing subsidiary, unless the posting already named them.
