PRIVATE · 2021 MARK
MoonPay
MoonPay moves fiat into crypto and back. The New York seat keeps transactions from getting stuck. The last priced round is still the November 2021 mark.
You are deciding whether to take a hybrid New York engineering seat on a salary band of $150,000–$210,000 that does not name a currency, at a company last priced at $3.4 billion in 2021.

MoonPay's 2021 round was one of the loudest of that year: $555 million at $3.4 billion, two and a half years after founding, called profitable by Reuters in the same piece. The band on this seat is $150,000 to $210,000 with no currency word, hybrid New York, for a senior blockchain engineer whose actual work is ugly in the useful way: broadcasting at volume, detecting stuck transactions, retrying without doubling, handling flows that cross chains and are not atomic, and noticing MEV and price impact. That is a production job. The posting also says AI is the default operating mode. Believe the failure-mode paragraphs more than the AI paragraph.
Five years is a long time to carry a $3.4 billion mark with no public reset. This brief will not invent a down round or an up round to fill the silence. Employee equity from 2021 and a new grant in 2026 are not the same security. Ask. The customer count the company now prints is much larger than the one attached to the round. Larger is not the same as more valuable, and it is not the same as the New York team being the team that owns the stuck-transaction path. Ask who pagers it.
Founders
Ivan Soto-Wright
Co-founder and CEO
He told Decrypt in 2021 the mission was to collapse a partner's time-to-market from a year to weeks. The company that hired against a $3.4 billion mark is the company posting a hybrid blockchain seat in New York now. Ask what changed in the product, not for the mission statement again.
What the company sells
On and off ramps
The original product: buy and sell crypto inside someone else's app. The 2021 coverage described that business as already profitable. That adjective is five years old.
The four verbs
The posting now says fund, tokenize, trade, and spend. The seat is the transaction machinery under those verbs: broadcast, retry, stuck transactions, multi-step flows.
Scale claims
30 million-plus customers, 500-plus partners. The employer's current scoreboard, not the seven million customers Decrypt quoted in 2021.

22 Nov 2021
Series A
$555 million at $3.4 billion
Reuters and the company's announcement, as reported by Decrypt: led by Tiger Global and Coatue. Also Blossom, Thrive, Paradigm, and NEA. Equity-only. Post-money $3.4 billion. Decrypt quoted more than $2 billion processed and about seven million customers at the time. Compare that, carefully, with the posting's 30 million-plus customers now. Growth in users is not growth in the mark.
What should change your mind
- A 2021 valuation as the only mark.
- Currency missing on the band.
- Hybrid New York. The posting is not a remote offer.
- Non-atomic cross-chain flows. The incident is a partial fill. The posting names it. So should you.
Ask them
- Is the band USD, and is it base salary?
- What happened to the $3.4 billion mark, and what would a new grant be struck at?
- How many days in the New York office?
- Who owns stuck-transaction recovery today, and what is the last incident?
