FalconX

FalconX is an institutional prime broker. The New York seat builds the trading systems the desk actually runs.

You are deciding whether to write low-latency order and market-data services, in Rust and Java, against an $8 billion private mark from June 2022 that nobody has publicly replaced.

Founded
The chief executive and founder, in Reuters' account of the 2022 round, is Raghu Yarlagadda.
Base
New York City for this seat. The pay sentence is for the New York City area.
Status
Private. The last round this brief will cite is June 2022.
People
Raghu Yarlagadda, founder and CEO, is the executive on the Reuters story.

Institutional crypto prime brokerage is a spreadsheets-and-sockets business. The posting is unusually concrete for the industry: Aeron, SBE, FIX, an order state machine, Rust and Java, latency as a feature. Five years in trading systems is the bar. A general backend interview will waste everyone's afternoon. The cash band is one of the few on this desk that says USD and says where it applies.

The equity story is the opposite of concrete. The last mark a candidate can actually read is $8 billion in June 2022, more than double a $3.75 billion mark from the summer before, led by a sovereign fund in a drawdown. Yarlagadda said then that volatility was the point. He was right about the volatility. Whether the mark survived it is not something this brief will invent. Ask what a new option is struck at, and whether the 2022 preference stack still sits above common.

Founders

Raghu Yarlagadda

Founder and CEO

He told Reuters in June 2022 that the firm would use a volatile market to hire and to buy things, and that the next 12 to 18 months would be volatile. Those 18 months ended long ago. The valuation he was announcing has not been replaced, in this brief, by a later priced round.

What the company sells

Prime brokerage

The company's own problem statement: institutions want trading, credit, and structure, and the crypto market is fragmented. FalconX sells the bundle.

The stack this seat owns

Aeron, OMS/EMS, market-data pipelines, venue gateways, FIX and WebSocket, SBE schemas. Employer language, not a guess.

What it is not

Not a consumer app and not a protocol. If you want to design a token, this is the wrong req.

Capital

Last priced mark

$8 billion

June 2022. Stale on purpose until a later round is public.

That round

$150 million

Mixed primary and secondary, Reuters said, without a split.

Prior mark

$3.75 billion

August 2021.

This seat's base

$179k–$226k USD

New York City area. Expected when the post was generated. Bonus and equity extra.

  1. Aug 2021

Series C, as later coverage described it

    $210 million at $3.75 billion

Blockworks, reporting the next round, described an August 2021 raise of $210 million at $3.75 billion. Reuters described that prior mark as $3.75 billion without repeating every participant.

  2. 22 Jun 2022

    Series D

    $150 million at $8 billion

Reuters: led by GIC and B Capital. Not all of the $150 million was primary; some investors sold. New names included Thoma Bravo and Adams Street. Tiger Global and Wellington were already in. The mark is four years old.

What should change your mind

  • A 2022 valuation used as if it were a 2026 fact.
  • Secondary inside the last round. Primary capital and a seller's exit are different runway stories.
  • Trading-system incidents are customer-capital incidents. The on-call is the job.
  • New York City is the location attached to the band. Do not assume another office pays the same.

Ask them

  • What is the strike, and what happened to the $8 billion mark?
  • How much of the 2022 round was primary?
  • Is Aeron the production bus, or a migration?
  • Who carries the pager when a venue gateway wedges?
