Custody
MPC, multisig, and an HSM are different controls.
Ask where the rule lives, who can ask for a signature, and what happens when a person or a vendor disappears. Do not ask which logo is more institutional.
The distinction
Multisig is a rule the ledger, or a contract, can check: more than one signature. MPC produces one signature from shares, so the chain may only see a normal key. An HSM is a box that holds material and signs inside it. You can combine them. Combining them does not name an owner.
What to write down
- Who proposes a withdrawal.
- The threshold, and whether the chain can see it.
- Recovery if one holder leaves or dies.
- What a vendor outage does to the ability to move.
- Who is allowed to change the policy.
What this is not
Not a ranking of vendors. Not a statement that any arrangement is regulated. Blockchain Lab does not hold customer assets. Provider comparison, where it exists, sits with Custody.io as a public product, not as a claim of ownership.
